Young people are thriving after taking part in an innovative multi agency initiative designed to help build their confidence, develop life skills, and make positive steps towards their futures.

Run2It was a collaborative effort led by Wolverhampton Youth Justice Service (YJS), health professionals, and other local partners. Over 14 weeks, it offered young people a structured pathway to explore employment, education, and personal development through hands on experiences and tailored support, and opportunities ranging from team building to skills development.

Each young person earned a full six-credit ASDAN Activities qualification, recognising their dedication and progress, and completed the RevivR British Heart Lifesaver course, gaining vital emergency response skills. It ended with a 5k inflatable run challenge, through which the group also raised an impressive £520 for Victim Support through sponsorship.

The Wolverhampton Youth Justice Service works to support young people in making positive choices and building brighter futures. Through early intervention, restorative approaches, and strong partnerships, the team helps reduce offending and reoffending, while promoting safety and wellbeing across the community.

Team manager Dave Cable said: “By focusing on rehabilitation and personal development, we can empower young people to take responsibility, repair harm, and thrive. Our work is a vital part of creating a safer, fairer city for everyone.”

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: "The success of Run2It is a shining example of what can be achieved when agencies work together to support our young people with purpose and compassion.

"The participants all enhanced their personal skills and qualities for the world of work, giving a launchpad for a brighter future for everyone who took part.

"Indeed, one participant is now preparing to start work in the automotive sector, another has secured a place at college while gaining hands on experience in landscaping, and a third has renewed their focus on education, with support from the Youth Justice Service's Inclusion team.

"Run2It has been incredibly successful, and we look forward to offering the programme again in the future."

The programme was coordinated and written by Ian Cooper, from Wolverhampton Youth Justice Service, whose passion and perseverance were instrumental in keeping the group motivated and engaged throughout.
