It is being organised by Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club with the support of the City of Wolverhampton Council and WV Active and will feature 8 teams from across the region. All profits will go to local dementia and Motor Neurone Disease charities.
Increasing in popularity, walking hockey is perfect for players who are looking for a less physically demanding version of the game but still enjoy showing their skills and being involved in the team and social aspect of the sport, or those who want to experience a new sport for the first time.
The Walking Hockey Festival takes place at WV Active Aldersley from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday (16 May, 2026).
Tim Lorimer, Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club coach, said: "Walking hockey is exactly as the name suggests – you play hockey while walking. It’s designed to help you keep an active lifestyle regardless of your age, health and ability, as well as getting people back into hockey who may have had to stop due to injuries or other reasons.
"Since we launched walking hockey some 4 years ago, the membership has grown to the point we now have around 50 members – with between 25 and 30 playing regularly.
"This is the second festival of its kind and we hope that people will come along and find out more this weekend. We would also like to thank both the City of Wolverhampton Council and WV Active Aldersley for their continuing support."
New members are always welcome to join Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club's weekly walking hockey sessions, which take place at WV Active Aldersley on Wednesdays at 11am. For more details, please email wathc.clubsecretary@gmail.com.
