Wolves Vs Swansea City

Tuesday 28th October KO 7.45pm

The game was almost threatened not by our visiting supporters, nor indeed our very own beloved Wolves faithful, but by snow! I can't recall snow falling in October before, what happened to the Indian Summer that we were supposed to be having? They don't have snow on Diwali in India do they?

This was our first repeat of the season as we had already played SC away and lost. We had 4 of our best players out then so we knew that it was going to be a lot closer this time around. There was a lot of debate as to who would keep goal for us after the shambolic defensive display against Watford - would it be Ikeme or would Hennessey come back in. When I got to the ground I was shocked, I thought one of the stewards had gone in goal! Boy, is Ikeme's kit fluorescent!

There was snow on the pitch, SC play in white, and you guessed it the ball was white (albeit with a hint of light yellow) - what happened to those luminous lime coloured balls that we are supposed to play with when we are trying to save daylight? Bring back those orange balls I say, and while we're getting nostalgic, lets stick a big 'R' in the corner when they're showing a replay!

The game was a bright affair with both sides playing the ball about nicely, and we took the lead, or so we all thought, when Iwelumo headed a goal, but the referee disallowed it for some unknown reason. One of their players had a good run and shot which Ikeme tipped brilliantly over the bar. Just when the half was coming to an end., up popped SEB to give us the lead with an acute angled shot. We asked our big match correspondent from the South Bank for a better description of the goal, and the reply we got was that he missed it as he was having a pint celebrating Diwali!!!

Just after the break they equalized when our midfield and defence seemed to stand still and allow them to plough through us and score with a well placed shot into the bottom corner. This spurred them on, and they were pushing us back and for the next 10 minutes or so, we were looking very shaky . Thankfully we saw this period through and went up the other end where SEB converted an excellent cross by Carlos Edwards.

We had another goal disallowed for something or the other, whatever it was - the linesman had his flag up well before the ball flew into the back of the net. One of their players went on a mazy run after some good passing football and hit a tremendous shot that bounced off the bar and out.

The crowd was 21,998 which should really have been rounded up to 22,000 because there was a 'full figured' gentleman in the away end who must have taken up a couple of extra seats on his own! As well as having a full figure he must have been heavy boned too, cos on a freezing cold night he took his top off, at which point the Wolves faithful asked him "Have you ever seen your…?!" Unfortunately we are unable to bring you the reply to this question!

'Molineux Munda' and I were commenting on how useful their number 7 and number 11 looked. Shortly thereafter the Welsh Italian subbed them both - class - we're going to do this again when we play the blue noses and comment that Phillips looks useful and hopefully they'll take him off an all! (Phillips is another one of those players that I class as a 'donkey' because….eyeore…., eyeore…., he always scores against us! Geddit!) - I know I've used this line before, but it's class and it's timeless and it's very apt for this paragraph!

I reckon SEB was Man-of-the-Match for his two goals which take him near to the top of the goal scoring charts, but equally Collins had a good game and deserves it for keeping his head up and playing for the team. SC themselves are a useful outfit, they play nice pacy football and will give other teams a good run for their money. In fact no bookies took any bets for a 'nil-nil' score today - they must know something…
