Wolves legend Steve Bull takes centre stage at Dunstall Park Wolverhampton.

Wanderers’ all-time leading goalscorer Steve Bull will be guest of honour at Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium next month ahead of England’s World Cup campaign.

The Wolves legend has teamed up with the UK’s only dual venue for both horse and greyhound racing by hosting a special football-focused evening on Saturday, May 30. Best known for scoring 306 goals in 561 appearances for Wolves during his 13-year spell at the club, the 61-year-old will share his favourite Wolves and England stories, World Cup memories, and behind-the-scenes insights.

Meanwhile, 12 live greyhound races will provide entertainment for racegoers and football enthusiasts while Wolves TV favourite Dazzling Dave will be in attendance to keep crowds entertained.

It marks the first time Wolverhampton’s newest greyhound track has combined ‘an evening with’ with live racing since it opened in September following a multi-million pound investment by Arena Racing Company. And Bull has been impressed by the new state-of-the-art facility. “The new venue is absolutely brilliant and has already proven to be fantastic for the city”, said Bull. “The people of the black country love their sport, love their racing so the venue is ideal.

“I am really looking forward to a great evening of talking football and watching the dogs as people get in the mood for the World Cup.” Wolves’ most prolific goal scorer of all time will also be available throughout the night for photos and chats with those in attendance.

Bull says the current crop heading to this summer’s tournament could finally end what has become 60 years of hurt. He experienced pain first-hand when part of Bobby Robson’s Italia ‘90 squad which crashed out on penalties to West Germany at the semi-final stage but still looks back on the tournament fondly. “Going to the World Cup with England in 1990 still feels like yesterday,” said Bull.

“I was very fortunate and it is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. “I think the new manager will do a good job and a number of the squad are entering the peak of their careers so I think England have a really good chance of getting to the latter stages of the tournament, and possibly could go all the way.”

Tickets for Steve Bull’s World Cup Warm-Up at Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium on Saturday, May 30, are available from £40 by purchasing a Horizons Restaurant package on the night via www.dunstallpark-greyhounds.co.uk. Doors open at 5.30pm, with the first of 12 races on the night off at 6.20pm.

The track will also be showing two of England’s three World Cup group stage games against Croatia and Panama on Wednesday, June 17, and Saturday, June 27. Both nights will feature live greyhound racing.
