On Sunday 19 April, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s 2025/26 pantomime was voted the best in the country. The pantomime which concluded on 4 January was the most successfully received Wolverhampton pantomime on record with over 25 five star reviews.
Sleeping Beauty, which starred Danny Beard, Debra Stephenson and Zak Douglas with Solomon Davy and Georgia Iudica-Davies alongside longstanding resident Dame and Comic Ian Adams and Tam Ryan was the talk of Pantoland this season. A completely home-grown pantomime created entirely in-house by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre had creativity and community at its heart. An innovative celebration of both traditional and modern pantomime, the show was a culmination of dedication and talent from the entire Grand Theatre team and the company assembled to bring the show to life on and off stage.
The pantomime had a brand-new set and costume design by David Shields, lighting design by Sam Hilditch, direction by David Jason, musical direction by Daniel Goodger, choreography by Natalie Bennyworth, Musical Supervision, Orchestrations and Arrangements by Mark Dickman and sound design by Michael Riley.
Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre Karen Smallwood said; “We are so incredibly proud of what we achieved with this pantomime. The team in Wolverhampton all worked so passionately to play their part and delivered above and beyond to make our first pantomime created by a new management team the ultimate celebration of pantomime. Wolverhampton has long been considered one of the country’s most prestigious pantomimes and to have our production of Sleeping Beauty be the one to affirm that title and our team’s contribution recognised nationally is the greatest honour.“
