As part of the new campaign to encourage regular rapid Covid-19 testing, Wolverhampton BID’s City Ambassadors are visiting businesses in the city centre to distribute coronavirus testing kits for employees to use at home.
From tomorrow (27 May) the BID’s City Ambassador Team will be calling at participating public-facing businesses in the City Centre BID Zone to hand out Covid-19 Lateral Flow Test (LFT) kits, information, and advice.
Whilst handing out kits, the team will be encouraging businesses and staff who have direct contact with members of the public to take regular, ideally twice-weekly, rapid tests to protect themselves, their colleagues, and their customers.
The BID ambassadors will be explaining how to self-test using the LFT kits, along with the importance of registering the result, whether it is positive, negative, or void.
Cherry Shine, Wolverhampton BID Director, said: “Wolverhampton’s City Centre BID’s Ambassadors will be visiting public-facing businesses in the city centre BID area and handing out LFT test kits. We want to make testing as easy as possible to businesses open to the public, as venues, shops and services across the city reopen, in order to protect their staff and customers, so that people can shop and socialise safely.”
Regular rapid testing, using free LFT test kits helps to monitor the increase or decrease of the virus, identify any patterns, and inform people when they need to self-isolate in order to prevent further transmission.
The City of Wolverhampton Council this week launched its new Get Up, Get Tested, Get Back to Normal campaign, aimed at encouraging people to make regular rapid testing part of their normal routine.
Cllr Jasbir Jaspal, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, added: “The work the BID Ambassadors are doing is helping to restart our City Centre and give shoppers the confidence that they can shop safely knowing that everyone is playing their part to protect each other.
“This supports our call for people make regular rapid testing part of their normal routines and get up, get tested and get back to normal, as restrictions are eased, and the city opens up again.”
People without symptoms of coronavirus can visit rapid test centres or pick up free LFT home test kits from locations across the city, or by ordering online.
