Local people who would like to find out more about starting an apprenticeship will have an opportunity to hear from the experts.

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is hosting an online Apprenticeship Roadshow on Tuesday 17 August.

Those attending the event, which runs from 11am to 1pm, will gain an overview of apprenticeships in the West Midlands and hear from employers and training providers about opportunities available now across the region.

Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to earn while learning and gain a valuable qualification up to degree level, together with practical experience. Anyone aged over 16 is eligible to apply for an apprenticeship.

The roadshow is the first in a series of 12 monthly careers-focused events being organised by the WMCA to provide information on employment and training opportunities across the region for residents of all ages.

Nearly 20 organisations will be joining the event, including Homeserve, BMet, South and City College Birmingham, University College Birmingham and the National Careers Service.

They will be showcasing apprenticeship opportunities in the following sectors: business, finance and professional; construction; digital; engineering and manufacturing; health; hospitality; and logistics.

Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “We know all too well the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had on our economy, and what that has meant for people’s jobs. This is especially true for young people who are getting their A-level or GCSE exam results this week, with some left not knowing what to do next.

“But there are still lots of employment and training opportunities available across the West Midlands, and apprenticeships are a great alternative to university or college. The WMCA’s roadshow will show young people – and adults – how to gain access to these opportunities and how we can help them to upskill as part of my 100,000 jobs plan.
