Urgent appeal for parents to submit reception class applications
6th January 2026

The deadline for applications is 11.59pm next Thursday 15 January, 2026, and families who have not already done so should visit School admissions and complete the short application process as soon as possible.

Latest figures show that only 65% of parents have completed their applications so far, meaning hundreds of children are at risk of missing out on a place at one of their preferred schools.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: "Time is running out, and I would implore parents or guardians of children who are due to start infant or primary school in September to complete their application forms now, if they haven’t already done so.

“This is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child’s future. The application process is straightforward and will only take a few minutes to complete.

“Please get your applications in by next Thursday’s deadline, as applying late could have a detrimental effect on your chance of securing a place at one of your preferred schools.

"And please also remember that, if your child currently attends a nursery at an infant or primary school, you still need to apply for a reception class place for them."

Applying online offers several benefits. Applications are made through a secure website and can be viewed or amended up until the deadline. Parents who apply online will also receive their child’s school place allocation electronically in April, avoiding the wait for a letter in the post.

Anyone needing help to complete their application can attend School Application Surgeries at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Square, Wolverhampton, WV1 1SH, on Thursdays 8 and 15 January, 2026, between 10am and 2pm. No appointment is required.
