
An inspiring evening of poetry and storytelling will take place on Wednesday 11 March at Bilston Library, bringing together powerful South Asian women’s voices to celebrate culture, humour, resilience and lived experience.
South Asian Women Poets & Storytelling will feature performances by:
• Kuli Kohli, Poet Laureate of Wolverhampton
• Saida Chowdhury
• Santosh K Dary
• Sheeba Eeshwaramorthy
• Rebecca Kaur
Alongside members of the South Asian Women’s Writing Group, the performers will share original poetry and stories reflecting the richness, diversity and strength of South Asian women’s experiences.
Relaunch of the South Asian Women’s Writing Group
We are proud to announce that the Punjabi Women’s Writing Group has been relaunched under a new, more inclusive name: South Asian Women’s Writing Group.
Founded in 2018 as the Punjabi Women’s Writing Group, the group has evolved to embrace a wider community of writers. The new name reflects a commitment to welcoming a broader range of South Asian women and fostering a more inclusive creative space.
The group is relaunched as part of Wolverhampton Literature Festival 2025, marking an exciting new chapter in its growth and impact across the region.

Members of the South Asian Women’s Writing Group will also be participating in World Poetry Day 2026, presented by Writer Types.

This vibrant multicultural celebration of world poetry, music and food will feature:
• An excellent Translation Workshop in the morning
• Many Voices of One World in the afternoon
The afternoon session will include a special Punjabi/English/German reading from Kuli Kohli of the South Asian Women’s Writing Group, Wolverhampton, alongside readers from Poland, Russia, Indonesia and beyond.
Headliners include:
• Northern Ireland’s queen of words, Cathy Carson
• Magical storyteller Charles Kouasseu from Cameroon

The South Asian Women’s Writing Group is dedicated to supporting South Asian women in Wolverhampton and across the West Midlands. Our mission is to provide a nurturing and empowering space where women can:
• Express themselves creatively
• Share personal stories and cultural experiences
• Develop and strengthen their writing skills
• Build confidence through collaboration and peer support
Through poetry, storytelling and community engagement, the group amplifies underrepresented voices and celebrates the creative contributions of South Asian women.
Both events are wonderful opportunities to experience the power of poetry to connect cultures, languages and communities.
