City of Wolverhampton Council’s Children’s Services welcomed Chief Social Worker for Children and Families, Isabelle Trowler CBE from the Department of Education recently to one of the city’s Family Hubs to learn more about the support available for families there.

Ms Trowler visited Graiseley Family Hub last week to see at first-hand how the Family Hubs and the Families First for Children Pathfinder (FFCP) programme is being successfully delivered and how local communities are being supported.

The council is playing a key part in the Department for Education's Families First for Children Pathfinder (FFCP) programme, designed to test ways to reform the children’s social care system, help children to stay with their families in safe and loving homes while protecting vulnerable children where needed and ensuring that families will receive the right support at the right time and be supported by the right professional.

Alison Hinds, Director of Children's Services, City of Wolverhampton Council said: “It was wonderful to welcome Ms Trowler to Graiseley Family Hub, a place where children, young people and their families can go when they need support, to show her around and see our Family Hub sessions in action.

“With the FFCP now in Phase two, the visit was a timely chance to highlight the council’s work and progress in Wolverhampton. During the visit, Ms Trowler spoke to staff from the council’s Children’s Services team and to representatives from The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital Trust and Children’s Social Care – a fantastic opportunity to showcase the collaboration between ourselves and other key regional stakeholders and how it leads to real support for our city’s families.”

Isabelle Trowler said: “It was great to visit colleagues in Wolverhampton and see a Family Hub in action. Thanks to all the hard-working colleagues who I met.

“We had such interesting and engaging chats about the Families First programme, and I left confident in the deep thinking that is going on in the Wolverhampton Pathfinder to make sure local families get the help they need. It was wonderful to learn more about their work.”
