Action4Independence, based on Albert Road, supports over 60 adults with a learning disability or living with dementia. It offers a wide range of day opportunities designed to promote independence, health and wellbeing, while helping people maintain strong connections with their communities.
During the visit, Councillor Leach toured the facilities, met staff and people with care and support needs, and discussed opportunities to strengthen links with community organisations, including Bilston Lions and its popular Dementia Café, with people with care and support needs expressing an interest in attending future sessions.
The visit also highlighted the service's commitment to inclusion.
Action4Independence recently received an award from Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis Club in recognition of its work to promote greater access to sport and physical activity for people with disabilities. The award recognised the team's efforts to support people with care and support needs to access the club, adapt activities to meet individual needs and ensure sport is accessible to everyone.
Councillor Leach said: “I was absolutely delighted to visit Action4Independence. It is a fantastic facility, and what really stood out to me was how engaged the staff are with the people they support. You can see how passionate they are about helping them get the most out of every day.
“I was even able to join in with their exercises to music, which was great fun! It was lovely to see everyone taking part and enjoying themselves. I also recognised some faces from when I visited a few years ago, which made the visit even more special.
“What I saw was much more than just a service providing care. It is a place where people are encouraged to be independent, stay active, build confidence and, most importantly, enjoy themselves and be part of their community.
“I was also really pleased to hear about the award from Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis Club. It is fantastic to see Action4Independence working with organisations in our communities to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to take part in sport and physical activities, whatever their ability.
“I would like to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome. I came away from the visit feeling really positive about the work they are doing. It is clear that the people who work there genuinely care about the people they support, and that makes such a difference.”
