Royal Garden Party honour for local Dementia campaigner

Julie Grainger MBE was one of the special guests invited to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday in recognition of her many years commitment to supporting people living with Dementia in the Wolverhampton area   Julie is the founder of Wolverhampton Alz Café which operates from Penn United Reform Church.

They host a once a month evening café providing food and entertainment  - and with sponsorship support over recent years from Midcounties Co-operative - are now able to offer a once a month coffee morning  providing supportive chat and respite for those in a caregiving role. They also run day trips throughout the year.  

The service is independent, free of charge and run solely on fundraising and donations. No one receives a wage.  

Julie got to meet Brian Cox the scientist, Princess Kate and Duchess of Kent amongst others and said of the event:   ‘’What a wonderful day to be part of and the MBE recently awarded to me has been an incredible honour - so much so,  that I am still on ‘cloud nine’ since I received the news.’’ ‘’I couldn’t do what I do without all the support of my fellow volunteers.’’  

Well done Julie well deserved we applaud you.
