Ring Road traffic restrictions for National Grid works

The works form part of National Grid's ongoing infrastructure improvement programme and will be in phases between Tuesday 1 September and Sunday 4 October on sections of Ring Road St Patrick's and Ring Road St David's.

Temporary traffic measures include lane closures and occasional road closures affecting movement through the Broad Street junction.

City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Transport, Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, said: "Utilities companies are responsible for more than two thirds of roadworks in Wolverhampton.

“While these works are essential to support and maintain critical infrastructure, we understand roadworks can be frustrating, particularly on key routes around the city.

“That is why we will be monitoring the impact of National Grid’s work to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. Where companies fail to meet their obligations, we will not hesitate to use enforcement powers available to us, including issuing fines where appropriate.

“Our message is simple: if you're working on Wolverhampton's roads, you must do so responsibly and minimise disruption.”

The restrictions are:

Ring Road St Patrick's
Tuesday 1 September to Wednesday 2 September

  • Right turn from Ring Road St Patrick's (anti-clockwise) onto Ring Road St Patrick's (clockwise) closed.
  • Lane closures from Stafford Street to Broad Street (down to one lane running).
  • Diversion via Ring Road (anti-clockwise), Chapel Ash Island and Ring Road (clockwise).

Ring Road St David's

Friday 25 September to Sunday 4 October

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys, follow signed diversion routes and consider alternative routes where possible during the works.

The latest National Grid work follows earlier phases along Bushbury Lane, Stafford Road, Stafford Street and The Maltings during the school holidays.

To help co-ordinate all work on our highways network, the council uses Causeway one.network which motorists can use to find out how to best plan their journey.
