The allocation of places for pupils who will be starting primary education for the first time this September was announced today (Thursday 16 April, 2026).

Alison Hinds, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Executive Director of Families, said: “We understand how important getting into the right school is to parents and carers, and we want as many of our young people as possible to secure a place at one of their preferred schools.

“We work hard with our local providers to ensure as many children as possible can go to school where they want to, and it is pleasing that so many parents have secured reception places at one of their preferred schools.

“Waiting lists will be in operation over the coming months and any places will be made available as and when they become free, while parents and carers who are unhappy with the allocation made for their child will also have the opportunity to make an appeal if they wish, which will be considered by an independent panel."

Any parents or carers of children due to start reception this autumn who haven't applied yet should do so immediately by contacting the council’s school admissions team online via School admissions or by calling 01902 551122.

Meanwhile, parents and carers whose children will start their primary education in September 2027 are being encouraged to begin thinking about their preferred schools now.

Alison added: "With demand for school places likely to be high again next year, I would like to remind parents and carers of pupils entering primary education in 2027 that they should submit their applications promptly when the window opens in November 2026 – as missing the deadline could significantly affect the chances of securing a place
