Visited by thousands of visitors each year - both human and hound - there are hundreds of picture opportunities to take advantage of at Bantock Park in Wolverhampton.

Local Facebook group, Pets in Bantock, has now found an ideal picture location to showcase their pets, known as the ‘Picture Stump’, located at the front of Bantock House and Museum, opposite Merridale Road.

Started in 2018 and now with more than 400 members, Pets in Bantock provides both an online community platform for residents and local visitors to post pictures of their pets, discuss issues and plan visits to the grounds.

Staff at the site are welcoming visitors to upload their images to social media and join the hundreds that have already posted snaps. Pets in Bantock is also looking to produce a calendar of images of the most posed and photogenic dogs.

City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor Stephen Simkins, said: “Bantock is a beautiful location and we are lucky to have the park and the house in the city.

“It is great to see that people are using this opportunity to exercise, visit their local park and take beautiful pictures of their surrounds and pets.

“While visiting I would like to remind people ‘Stay Safe and Stay Apart’. Government social distancing measures are still in place and everyone should follow the guidance.”

Bertie Booth, creator of Pets in Bantock, added: “When some trees in front of Bantock House fell down in a storm a remaining piece of stump was just asking to be used as a photo medium.

“One or two of us took photos of our dogs standing on the stump and published them on the Facebook page. My idea is to produce a calendar with one dog per month but the number of poses has grown so much we will have to have several on each.”

To take part tag @BantockHouseMuseum on Facebook and Twitter or @wolvesartsandculture on Instagram.

The grounds are open seven days a week and The Courtyard Café is providing a take-away service Monday to Sunday from 9am until 4pm.
