University of Wolverhampton will become the latest partner to bolster the workforce based at Wolverhampton Civic Centre - boosting jobs and footfall in the city centre.
City of Wolverhampton Council has agreed a lease deal with the university that will see around 450 of their professional services staff, in areas such as, finance, HR, recruitment and marketing, working from the St Peter’s Square location for at least the next ten years.
It will deliver economic efficiencies for both organisations and forms part of phase one of the university’s Estates Masterplan aimed at creating much more connected, vibrant and dynamic campuses which support the growth in student numbers.
Councillor Chris Burden, the council’s Cabinet Member for City Development, Jobs and Skills, said: “We look forward to welcoming colleagues from the university’s professional service teams to the Civic Centre as their new base, also supporting our efforts in making the best use of our buildings and managing financial challenges.
“It promotes public sector partnering, showcases the opportunities the city centre can bring, and supports the university’s growth and development which in turn boosts footfall and benefits the local economy.
“The university’s commitment and ambition for our city is vital and we will continue to work closely with them as a key partner.”
Dr Pete Cross, Chief Operating Officer, University of Wolverhampton, said: "Relocating our Professional Services teams to the Civic Centre marks a significant step in fostering greater collaboration and connectivity across the University. This move supports our long-term vision to create a vibrant, dynamic, and environmentally sustainable campus that enhances the student experience and strengthens our financial resilience.
“Partnering with the City of Wolverhampton Council enables us to contribute meaningfully to the city’s regeneration, reinforcing our role as a civic university committed to the prosperity of our community."
