Lime bikes are being made available across Wolverhampton over the coming weeks as part of a region-wide rollout, providing residents and visitors with a convenient, sustainable and affordable form of transport.

Lime is taking over as the new cycle hire provider in the West Midlands at no cost to the taxpayer.

Their electrically assisted bikes have been in use in Birmingham, Coventry and Solihull since April 2026.

It comes as the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is investing in cycling and walking routes to help more people choose active travel for everyday journeys.

The new bikes are stationed at locations across Wolverhampton, and users will be able to find where they are via the Lime bike app as they are added.

Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for City Transport, said: “It is important to make it easier for people to choose cycling and other active travel options, particularly for short journeys.

“These bikes are a practical option for people of all levels of fitness for everyday journeys, whether that’s commuting, shopping or visiting friends.

“By bringing more flexible travel choices to Wolverhampton, we can also help people more easily connect with jobs, education and local services.”

Mayor of the West Midlands Richard Parker said: “Lime’s new ebikes have already proven a hit in Birmingham, Coventry and Solihull and I’m sure they will be just as successful in Wolverhampton.

“These new bikes with e-powered pedalling open up active travel to even more people, especially those who thought their cycling days were behind them.

“Alongside our ongoing investment in safer cycle routes, this will help people choose cycling as an affordable, cleaner and greener way to get around our towns and cities.”

Tom Newham, Lime's Senior Public Affairs Manager, said: “We’ve been blown away by the reception to Lime bikes across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands since launching in April, and we’re thrilled to now be expanding our service to Wolverhampton to help even more people get around on two wheels.

“The West Midlands has shown a real appetite for affordable, sustainable and active travel, and Wolverhampton is a natural next step as we continue working with local partners to grow access to shared micromobility across the region."

Members of the public can attend a taster session in Wolverhampton on Wednesday June 3 between 11am and 1pm in St Peter’s Square, in front of the council house, where they can speak to representatives from Lime and learn all about using the bikes.

You must be 18 years old or over to ride a Lime bike and everyone is advised to wear a helmet.

Before you start your ride, you must download the Lime app and create an account. You’ll need to provide a valid phone number or email address and a form of payment.
