The Black Country-based developer has successfully delivered two bungalows at Langdale Drive, Bilston, and two at Fane Road, Wednesfield, providing much-needed high-quality, accessible homes for local residents.
The homes have been built on previously unused brownfield land, demonstrating the council’s ongoing commitment to bringing forward new housing opportunities on sites of all sizes as part of its wider housing regeneration programme.
J.Harper & Sons Limited secured the contract through the council’s Housing Development Framework, which enables the local authority to work with trusted partners to accelerate the delivery of new homes across the city.
The Langdale Drive and Fane Road developments are also the first schemes to be delivered as part of the Portfolio Partnership framework pilot, with Wolverhampton one of a select number of local authorities chosen by Homes England to deliver the initiative. The programme will see £19.7 million invested to support the start of construction on around 200 new homes over two years.
Meanwhile, Harper Group has also been awarded a further contract to transform a former garage site on Earl Street in Bilston into four new one-bedroom maisonettes.
All development will provide social rented homes designed to meet modern energy efficiency standards. The scheme will incorporate solar panels and battery storage to help reduce energy costs for future tenants.
Councillor Steve Evans, the council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Housing and Assets, said: “We are committed to delivering new, high-quality council homes across Wolverhampton, and it’s fantastic to see these bungalows completed at Langdale Drive and Fane Road.
“These developments show how even small sites can make a big difference, providing much-needed homes for our residents while bringing underused land back into use.
“We are also pleased to continue our strong partnership with J.Harper & Sons Limited, who will now go on to deliver new energy-efficient homes at Earl Street in Bilston, further boosting social housing provision in the city.”
Antony Rees, J.Harper & Sons Limited Group Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to have completed these new homes and to have been awarded another contract through the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Framework.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with the council to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes. The Earl Street scheme will transform a former garage site into modern, sustainable maisonettes that meet the needs of local residents while helping to keep energy bills low.”
The council continues to identify and develop sites across Wolverhampton as part of its strategy to increase the supply of affordable housing and support thriving communities.
