NAC Public Update
31st March 2020
... Comments

It has been a week like no other in NAC’s twenty-year history. It is only eight days ago that we were due to welcome Box of Tricks Theatre with The Last Quiz Night On Earth. Since deciding to cancel it two days before, we have almost completely redesigned how we work. All courses, classes and events remain cancelled until at least May 1st.

We are closed to the public and the site can only be accessed by residents, two of whom provide essential services to the most vulnerable. Both Eden Support and Renness Support provide social care for adults with learning and physical disabilities. Ordinarily their clients come to NAC for a range of social and creative activities every weekday, but now they are supporting them in their own homes. We are also the home of Wolverhampton’s community radio station, wcrfm, and are maintaining access to their studios while they provide essential local news, interviews and public health updates for the city.

We are talking to artists and companies that sadly we have had to cancel dates for. All without exception have been understanding and supportive. Wherever possible we will reschedule their dates. The fabulous Welsh folk act Calan who were due here in April are already back in the programme for January 2021 – and if you want to support us now why not go and buy a ticket or two for January 30th 2021.

Our team have quickly adjusted to Microsoft Teams and are staying at home to save lives. We have taken our on-site staffing down to the absolute minimum required to keep the site safe and preserve NAC for the future.

We are working with our resident artists and creative companies on how we can create a virtual NAC over the coming days, to provide enjoyment, distraction and maybe even a little learning over next few weeks. Please watch this space for more details and stay safe.

Wolverhampton, we will see you on the other side of this stronger than ever.
