The mobile Covid-19 testing unit has moved to East Park this week.
From Tuesday 20 July the unit will be in next to the sports pavilion in East Park, offering free rapid LFT testing, without appointment, for anyone who does not have coronavirus symptoms. The unit will be open daily between 9am and 7pm
Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “We are seeing significant increases in infection rates locally and nationally and expect these to rise further as social distancing rules are relaxed next week.
“With up to one in three people with coronavirus not having symptoms but still able to pass it on to others, regular rapid testing helps to monitor the virus and limit onward spread.
“That’s why we are asking people to continue to take regular rapid tests, ideally twice a week, and to be sure to register all results, whether positive or negative.”
Rapid testing for people without symptoms of Covid-19 can be picked up from locations across the city or ordered online for home delivery. Rapid testing is also available at the Civic Centre from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, The Hub at Ashmore Park between 9am and 6pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and at the Jamia Masjid Bilal, Newhampton Road, from 10am-7pm daily. People who are using home test kits are reminded that they must register their result even if it is negative, as this helps to track the prevalence of the virus in the city.
Anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 – a new, continuous cough, a fever or a change to their sense of taste or smell – is reminded they must self-isolate and book a PCR test as soon as possible, either at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.
Latest figures show there were 426.4 new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in Wolverhampton over the last seven days. That means 1,121 people in the city tested positive for the virus in that same period – though the true number of new cases will likely be higher.
