The City of Wolverhampton Council-run service, which supports 52 adults with a learning disability and 14 people living with dementia, provides a range of day opportunities that promote independence, health, wellbeing, and community presence.

Action4Independence offers individuals choice and control over how they spend their day, supporting them to take part in a variety of activities in the local area and across the wider city.

The Mayor was invited to tour the facilities on Albert Road, Wolverhampton, enjoy a performance of Christmas songs by people who attend day opportunities, and judge a festive jumper competition before handing out prizes to participants.

This year’s Christmas Jumper Day also raised vital funds for the Mayor's chosen charities, Acorns Children’s Hospice, Compton Care, the Armed Forces charity SSAFA, and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity.

Mayor Councillor Collingswood said: "I would like to say a big, heartfelt thank you to the team at Action4Independence for inviting me to their Christmas party and to judge their Christmas Jumper Day competition in aid of my chosen charities.

“I had such a fantastic time and it was truly a pleasure meeting all the staff and people who attend day opportunities and hearing them all singing Christmas songs."

Councillor Paula Brookfield, Cabinet Member for Adults, added: "Our Day Opportunities service provides meaningful inclusion by supporting people with care and support needs to engage with both their local, and wider, communities.

"Through a variety of enriching and enjoyable activities, Action4Independence aims to create a safe, welcoming environment where people can thrive, connect, and grow.

“It also plays a vital role in supporting carers, offering valuable respite during the day and peace of mind that their loved ones are in trusted, compassionate hands."
