Local Poet Publishes New Book
5th November 2021

Turning 60 in March proved the catalyst for Black Country-based writer Brendan Hawthorne to review his back catalogue of work and produce a collection of poetry to mark the occasion.

Seventies Child and Other Fashion Trends is a retrospective of favourites, chosen both by him and those favoured by audiences from live performances, along with new poems never before aired in public.

“I wanted to produce a ‘greatest hits’ - although I refer to it the ‘best and rest of for now!’ - a real celebration of a milestone birthday.

The poems are collated from out-of-print publications, right from Urban Dawn published by bluechrome in 2004, through short-run pamphlets and other small press, to my previous last collection Readings from the Dream Factory. I then included new writing, bringing me right up-to-date. I’m really proud of it and I hope people like it.”

Seventies Child… is published by Dream Well Writing Ltd, the dyslexia-friendly press run by Stafford Poet Laureate Mel Wardle Woodend, who plays host at the launch event at Stafford Library on 8th November. It will be a free in-person event, as well as by Zoom link, and will feature readings by Brendan, as well as performances by guest poets and writers. Copies of the book, priced at £10, will be available on the night and later to order, plus postal charge.
