Local Care Workers win awards

We wanted to share with everyone a fantastic and uplifting story of two male carers at C & S Care Services, professional home care providers in Wolverhampton, who recently won awards.

Carers Everton Drysdale and Gary Mills joined C & S Care Services in March 2010 from an electrical production and manufacturing background. They were both unemployed and wanted to retrain within care and joined the Care to Make a Difference course which is run by Sue Davies at the Employability Team in Wolverhampton. They have gone from strength to strength in this time, being recognised as 'best students' by the Employability Team in July 2010. They are both currently studying towards achieving their NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care, giving them real qualifications with which they can further their career within the care profession. Everton is also a Dignity Ambassador for C & S Care Services which works with management, Service Users and staff to improve the care service where possible by gaining perspectives from all areas. They are both proof that male carers can excel and make a career out of caring for others.

Registered Manager at C & S Care Services, Sandra Wharton said, "Having come into care from a none caring background, they have both proven to be excellent carers and I am really proud of both of them and to have them as part of our team. They came to C & S Care from the Employability Team at Wolverhampton having gained a little knowledge of what care is about on the Care to Make a Difference course. The on-going training that C & S Care Services provide for them has guided them well”.

Carer Everton Drysdale said, "I came into this to make a difference to peoples’ lives but it has made all the difference to my life in every possible way. There’s a reason to get up for work, it’s much more than a job, it’s a way of life”.

Carer Gary Mills said, “I’m proud of this award, but what makes me more proud is when the Service Users say “thank you” and smile because they are happy, that means more to me – that is my award”.

All of us here at 'thebestof wolverhampton" offer our congratulations to Everton and Gary for their awards, and wish them every future success in their care career.
