Hundreds of residents across the city have benefited from free advice and support thanks to regular community events organised by City of Wolverhampton Council.
Help at the Hub, run by officers from the council’s Public Protection Scams Team, sees a wide variety of local organisations offer free advice, support and information to residents.
The events, which take place every two months, are held at venues across the city. Since they began, more than 300 people have been supported with help and advice on everything from money matters and health to education and safety.
The next Help at the Hub, to be held in Bilston on Tuesday, August 19, will be the 20th in the series. It will take place from 11am to 2pm in the Main Hall, Bilston People’s Centre, Excel Church, WV14 0LT.
Residents can speak with advisors from Aquarius, Camp Hill Village Trust, Kooth, Neighbourhood Safety Co-ordinator, Public Protection, SEND Offer, Severn Trent, SUIT, Talking Therapies, Terrific for Twos, Waste Services, Welfare Rights, West Midlands Police, Wolverhampton City Credit Union and the Wolves Foundation.
Officers from the Public Protection Scams Team will be handing out free scams awareness and prevention packs.
People are welcome to drop in and speak to any number of the organisations for free help and assistance.
Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, City of Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for resident services, said: “Our Help at the Hub events have become a real fixture in the city’s calendar and they have helped so many of our residents.
“People have received support on a whole host of topics that may have been worrying them, such as housing advice and assistance, debt management and crime reporting as well as support around health concerns and jobs.
“They have also received information about a wide range of other topics to help their loved ones, family, friends and neighbours.
“By going out into communities, we have been able to support those residents who don’t regularly use computers or apps. It also means people can access officers easily and speak to someone face-to-face in confidence to get their problems resolved.
“Our officers, and those from a wide range of city organisations, are here to offer people support. The message of Help at the Hub is: whatever your worry, don’t face it on your own. Come along and get some friendly help and support.”
Residents do not have to book an appointment but are asked to please be prepared to wait if the event is busy.
