Faced with increasing energy costs and the challenges common to manufacturers working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, the company sought expert guidance to modernise its processes. Through the fully funded BEAS programme, Pro Enviro conducted a comprehensive energy audit and provided recommendations that have now transformed the business’s operational performance.

Following the audit, Heat Treatment 2000 invested in new high-efficiency burners, delivering improved furnace performance supported with 50% matched funding. The replacement of a 2.2 kW combustion fan with two 0.5 kW motors, reduce energy use while maintaining output, with the heat-up time to 550°C reduced from 1 hour 45 minutes to just 30 minutes.

The investment also contributed with lower gas consumption and improved product finish due to optimised oxygen levels within the furnace. These improvements have resulted in measurable cost savings, more consistent processing conditions and an enhanced service offering for customers.

Paul Barber, Director of Heat Treatment 2000, praised the impact of the programme: “We have become more efficient. We are using less energy. Load rates are improved because the burners have enough power to better hold temperature under load. The finish on a customer’s product is better. So, a win / win / win.”

Through BEAS, Heat Treatment 2000 has been able to make evidence-based investments that will support long-term performance and reliability. The improvements also reinforce the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions while enhancing service quality for customers across the region.

The Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) provides fully funded energy audits and expert support to help West Midlands businesses cut costs, reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency.
