The event, hosted by BBC Radio WM on Monday 15 September, celebrated remarkable individuals from across the region. Finalists included a 10-year-old boy who provides football commentary for blind fans and a team working to save lives of those struggling with addiction.

Pam, who volunteers twice a week at the Good Shepherd, was praised for her dedication and compassion.

According to BBC WM: Typically, 100 people are served a meal every Friday and her nomination said she was “so kind and loving” and despite having neuropathy in her legs, serves and prepares meals standing for hours.

Pam reflected on her volunteering journey: “Back in 2011, I went for a meal at a Chinese restaurant, I looked across the road and saw a queue of people looking for food outside Darlington Street church.

“I phoned up and offered to help out on Christmas Day, then that led to volunteering four times a week and now it’s two days.”

Lee Smith, Operations Manager at Good Shepherd said: “Pam is a very deserving winner who has been an integral member of the food service team for many years.

“Pam has embraced numerous changes here at the Good Shepherd and supported thousands of people. We are thrilled she has won the Volunteer Award at the BBC Make a Difference Awards and we’re all very proud of her.”
