Residents can get practical help to build their digital skills and confidence at community activities taking place across Wolverhampton during Get Online Week 2026 (October 19-25).

Led nationally by Good Things Foundation, Get Online Week is the UK’s largest digital inclusion campaign.

This year’s campaign highlights how being unable to get online can make it harder to access essential services, find work, manage money, look after health and stay connected.

City of Wolverhampton Council’s Digital Wolves trusted partner network is supporting the week with free activities designed around the needs of local communities.

Access to Business is offering the following sessions:

  • Wednesday, October 21, 11am – Digital Divide session at Hope Community Centre, Ling House, Long Ley, WV10 0HH
  • Thursday, October 22, 10am to noon – online employment support at 81 Tempest Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 1AA
  • Friday, October 23, call 01902 572397 to arrange – business planning for start-up businesses at 81 Tempest Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 1AA

Global Diabetes Initiatives will host a Get Connected for Better Health session on Thursday, October 22, from 11am to 3pm at The Hub, Wolverhampton Railway Station, next door to Costa Coffee, WV1 1LE. The session will help people use digital tools with greater confidence, including finding reliable information about diabetes, hypertension and emotional wellbeing; support to download and navigate the NHS App; and practising video calls to stay connected with family and community support.

SNJ Centre, Dudley Road, WV2 3DR, will be hosting: ‘News, information, games ideas online’ men’s group digital class on Tuesday, October 20, 1pm to 3pm; ‘NHS app, online safety, online shopping’ digital class on Wednesday, October 21, 10am to 12pm; ‘How to make a playlist, search for lyrics’ sing & swing session on Thursday, October 22, 12.30pm to 2.30pm; and ‘Sewing Bees’ digital session on Friday, October 23, 11am to 1pm.

The Gujarati Centre, Mander Street, WV3 0JZ, will be holding a ‘Shopping online safety and NHS app session on Monday, October 19, 11am to 1pm; and the Shri Krishna Temple, Penn Road, WV3 0DU, has a NHS app, online safety and shopping session on Tuesday, October 20, 7pm to 9pm.

Residents are also encouraged to check what digital events are taking place in their local communities throughout the week.

Councillor Jeszemma Howl, the council’s Cabinet Member for Governance and Digital, said: “Digital skills and access are increasingly important in everyday life, whether people are looking for work, managing their money, accessing council and health services or keeping in touch with family and friends.

“Get Online Week is a valuable opportunity for residents to find friendly, practical support in trusted community settings and to build confidence at their own pace.

“Through Digital Wolves and our trusted partner network, we are working to make sure more people can get online safely, confidently and affordably. I would encourage anyone who would benefit from support to take part in one of the activities taking place across the city.”

The council’s trusted partner network brings together 91 organisations supporting people who may face digital exclusion. This includes disabled people, refugees and people from ethnic minority communities, residents on low incomes, older people and those receiving support from social care services.

Free public computers and Wi-Fi are also available at all 16 Wolverhampton libraries. Residents are advised to check opening times with their local library before visiting.
