British Moroccan poet Nayma Chamchoun is to appear on The Ian Henery Show on Black Country Xtra fresh from her performance at the Casablanca International Poetry Festival.
The 2026 Casablanca International Poetry Festival took place from May 7 to May 10, 2026. The vibrant, multi-day literary event brought together international and local poets, writers, and performers for readings, workshops, and cross-cultural dialogue. The 2026 edition featured poets from multiple continents, including notable participants like Tarek Eltayeb, Nayma Chamchoun and Sonnet Mondal.
Programs included poetry readings, theatrical poetry workshops (such as sessions held at the American Arts Center), and multilingual discussions.
"I performed 2 of my pieces followed by a translator reciting the pieces in Arabic for non English speaking attendees" said Nayma (pictured receiving her award). "The Festival concluded with poets being presented with an award for their contribution to the arts and literature. "
Nayma Chamchoun is a British Moroccan writer, poet and performance poet. Her writing is influenced by her cultural duality. She is interested in female voices in the diaspora community, the challenges they face within both communities and the taboos around mental health within their ancestral communities.
Nayma is an active member of London's vibrant Poetry and Spoken Word community, the international Poetry community online and has performed her work at several Poetry Open Mike events including the Grenfell 5 & 7 year Anniversary, Women Writing Lockdown Exhibition at the House of Commons, and had her work featured on West Wiltshire Radio & BBC Radio London several times.
Her first poetry collection COVID: THE WORDY WILDS OF A MIND UNDER LOCKDOWN was published to critical acclaim in 2022
Her second collection Saging Not Ageing, published on June 1st 2024.
