Between Monday 12 and Friday 16 January, the fostering team met members of the public at a range of city centre locations, including the Wulfrun Centre and Mander Centre, offering informal opportunities to find out more about fostering and the support available to those who step forward.
Throughout the week, residents were able to stop by, talk to the team, ask questions, and hear more about the difference foster parents make to children and young people in Wolverhampton.
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “Fostering has the power to change lives: it gives children and young people the stability, care and encouragement they need, while offering foster parents a deeply rewarding experience.
“We are incredibly proud of the foster parents already supporting children across Wolverhampton. However, there are always more children who need safe, loving homes, and welcoming new people to these events helps us start important conversations about fostering.”
For those unable to attend in person, an online information session held on Tuesday 13 January gave people the opportunity to learn more about fostering from the comfort of their own homes. The session covered what fostering involves, the assessment process, and the training, guidance and financial support available.
Councillor Coogan added: “There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ foster parent. People from all backgrounds attended our events, many of whom were surprised to learn how much support is available. Our team is committed to guiding anyone interested in fostering every step of the way.”
