The former Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Linda Leach, has presented a total of £31,037 to her chosen charities following a year of tireless fundraising and community support.

Throughout her Mayoral year, Cllr Leach led a wide range of fundraising activities, from quizzes and raffles to Bake Offs and even a fashion show – all aimed at raising vital funds for local good causes. Generous donations from residents and supporters also contributed to the impressive total.

A special mention goes to the organisers of the Mayor’s Fest rock concert, which alone raised a remarkable £7,000, showcasing the city’s vibrant community spirit and love for live music.

The funds have now been distributed to three local charities close to the former Mayor’s heart:

  • Beacon Centre for the Blind
  • Wolverhampton Samaritans
  • Age UK Wolverhampton

Councillor Leach said: "As one of my final duties as the former Mayor, it is both an honour and a privilege to present donations to my chosen charities: the Beacon Centre for the Blind, Wolverhampton Samaritans, and Age UK Wolverhampton.

“These funds were raised throughout my year in office, but this moment is about so much more than financial support. It has been a true privilege to promote and work alongside some of the most dedicated and compassionate individuals, all of whom work tirelessly to support the people of Wolverhampton.

“Over 2024-2025, I had the pleasure of meeting many inspiring and selfless volunteers who play an essential role in the life of our city. Quite simply, our community could not do without them.

“Wolverhampton’s proud motto, “Out of Darkness Cometh Light,” sat perfectly alongside my personal theme for the year: “Every Person Matters.” Together, they express everything I hoped to highlight and celebrate during my time as Mayor.

“These donations will help meet the essential costs of keeping these vital services running, especially during these challenging times with the rising cost of living. More importantly, they will help ensure that a light continues to shine on the remarkable work being done every day for the people of Wolverhampton.

“It was the greatest honour to serve as Mayor of Wolverhampton, and I will always be proud of the kindness, resilience and community spirit that make this city so special."

Each year, the Mayor of Wolverhampton raises funds for local good causes. The current Mayor, Cllr Craig Collingswood, is fundraising for Compton Care, Acorns Children’s Hospice, SSAFA – the Armed Forces charity and the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity Trust.
