Do something crazy for charity!

Rarely a month goes by without being asked to sponsor somebody for a charity event, but recently it's been me doing the asking! Once a year I look for a suitable event to do for charity and try to raise a few hundred pounds. This year Heart Research UK became firmly locked in my sights when they emailed me back in the spring.

"Do you have what it takes to do the Awesome Foursome?"

I must admit I was slightly confused by the title and feared that I was the recipient of some rather unpleasant spam! However, I did open the email and to my surprise the 'Awesome Foursome' is a adrenaline fuelled event which consists of a 250ft Zip Wire, 150ft free Abseil, 150ft Powerfan Decent (don't ask!), and a 150ft Bungee Jump. To make the event all the more exciting… all activities are set at the indoor Magna centre in Rotherham… in darkness!

Being something of an adrenaline junkie I had been looking forward to this event for quite some time, but nothing could have prepared me for the sheer exhilaration of the day. After having completed all the events (letting out an unmistakable roar each time I launched myself into the darkness), there was time for a quick cup of tea before the drive home.

The day was made equally enjoyable by chatting to other fundraisers taking part in the event. We were all there for different reasons, but as I chatted to a rather nervous lady on a gantry suspended 150ft in the air - her story was most touching. Rebecca was taking part in the Awesome Foursome in memory of a friend who had sadly passed away due to heart failure at the age of 25.
