Wolverhampton residents planning a street party for the King’s Coronation have less than three weeks to apply for a road closure if they need one.

The Coronation of King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023, with hundreds of thousands expected to celebrate up and down the country over the Bank Holiday weekend

The fee for road closures has been waived by City of Wolverhampton Council, and residents have until 5pm on Monday 24 April to secure theirs by completing a simple online application.

Ian Fegan, Director of Communications and Visitor Experience at City of Wolverhampton Council said:

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy traffic free and safe street parties to mark the King’s Coronation.

“We would urge anyone who is planning a street party and needs to have road closure in place to apply ahead of the Monday 24 April deadline and avoid disappointment.”

City of Wolverhampton Council is also providing grants of up to £250 to people celebrating the King’s Coronation.

The funding is available for residents and local community and voluntary groups hosting street parties or community events during the King’s Coronation Bank Holiday weekend. To date, 84 grants have been approved and groups are urged to apply soon to avoid disappointment.
