The council has partnered with Frontline since 2017 to offer people a unique route into the profession, through which they will benefit from intensive practical and academic training tailored to their needs.

Dozens of people applied to take part with the successful candidates, Courtney Blews, Nikita Dallison, Aemen Fatima, Rennelle James and Marjorie Smith, arriving in Wolverhampton this week.

Over the next 3 years they will work with children, young people and their families while qualifying as a social worker in their first year, their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) in their second year, and a fully funded Masters qualification in their third year.

Although the focus of their work will be within children’s social care services, the group will also be given experience of adult social care, disability services and fostering.

“Social work is one of the most rewarding careers someone can choose. Every day, our teams make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families, helping them overcome challenges and achieve positive outcomes.

“Our partnership with Frontline has gone from strength to strength since 2017, bringing dozens of highly skilled and dedicated social workers into our workforce. Many have gone on to build successful careers with the council, and their commitment and passion continue to have a lasting impact across our city.

“At a time when councils across the country face significant recruitment challenges, investing in the next generation of social workers has never been more important – and we are proud that Wolverhampton is recognised as a great place to learn, develop and practise social work.

“I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Courtney, Nikita, Aemen, Rennelle and Marjorie. They are beginning an exciting journey, and I know they will receive fantastic support from colleagues as they take their first steps towards making a difference in the lives of local children and families.”

Courtney said: "Working with the City of Wolverhampton Council means a lot to me because it serves the city I live in and the community I am a part of. I already have a good understanding of the area and the diversity of the people who live here, which makes the role feel more personal to me.”

Nikita added: “I have heard great things about working for Wolverhampton so I feel privileged and excited for what the next 3 years will entail. I am most looking forward to embracing the rich learning environment I have heard so much about.”
