The Local Safety Scheme is on the section between Deyncourt Rd and The Scotlands island following a consultation, with work starting on Monday 3 November and due to finish on Friday 21 November, weather permitting.

Improvements in the Local Safety Scheme include:

  • Three pedestrian refuges at key crossing points
  • Central hatch road markings with dedicated right-turn lanes to improve traffic flow and reduce turning conflicts
  • Bollards to prevent pavement parking and improve pedestrian visibility
  • Relocation of the bus shelter near Mill Lane to a more central position, closer to the shopping area, improving accessibility

Most of the work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm and temporary two-way and multi-way signals will be in place for the safety of road users and the workforce.

Qaiser Azeem, City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for City Transport, said: “Improving road safety is a key priority for us, and these measures are based on detailed analysis and community feedback. We are committed to making Cannock Road safer for everyone including pedestrians.”
