The school run has been made safer for more pupils following the introduction of traffic calming measures by City of Wolverhampton Council.

The latest Safer Routes to School project to be delivered by the council has been welcomed at Manor Primary School.

It includes school zone road markings, signs, speed cushions, dropped kerbs at crossings and waiting/loading restrictions in Ettingshall Road and Foster Avenue to tackle poor parking.

Manor Primary headteacher Julie Mills said: “Everyone at Manor Primary School, is delighted to see the introduction of the new Safer Routes to School measures outside our school.

“This marks a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, families, and staff.

“We are grateful to the City of Wolverhampton Council for implementing these important improvements.

“These changes directly respond to the concerns raised by our school community and will help to create a safer, more welcoming environment at the start and end of each school day.”

Councillor Qaiser Azeem, Cabinet Member for Transport at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “I am really pleased to see the latest Safer Routes to School project making a positive difference for both the school and wider community following calls for action at this location.

“This will create a safer environment which will encourage more families to choose active ways to travel to school such as walking or cycling helping to boost healthy lifestyles and reduce traffic congestion.

“We are committed to providing an efficient but safe highways network for all.”

Hundreds of pupils across the city have benefitted from the council’s Safer Routes to School projects and Local Safety Schemes and more projects are planned for 2025/26, funded by the council’s highways capital programme.
