The team at RCF Bolt & Nut recently came across some fascinating historic images published online, showing what is a former GKN manufacturing facility established in 1948. By this point, the British manufacturing giant had established a dedicated Bolt & Nut Division on Salisbury Street, Darlaston, which happens to be the exact same site that RCF Bolt & Nut and sister company Union Fasteners operate from today.

More than 75 years later, RCF specialises in the manufacture of high-integrity bolting solutions predominantly for infrastructural projects, while Union Fasteners manufactures bespoke and safety-critical fasteners for customers across a range of industries and international markets.

Although manufacturing technology has transformed considerably since GKN occupied the site, the connection to the Black Country’s engineering heritage remains.

Both RCF and Union continue to invest in modern machinery, in-house manufacturing capabilities and skilled local people, helping ensure that the expertise associated with the region continues into a new generation.

Discovering the history of the site has provided an opportunity to reflect on the generations of skilled manufacturers who came before. Both companies are proud to continue that legacy from the very site where GKN’s fastener operations were once based.
