College staff part of team honoured with national award

Two members of staff at City of Wolverhampton College are celebrating after a regional association they are part of was recognised with a national award.

Ken Davies, a health and safety tutor, and Rose Edwards, health and safety manager, are part of the Birmingham Health, Safety and Environment Association (BHSEA) which was recognised with a Gold Award at the annual Safety Groups UK (SGUK) Awards.

The award recognises high-quality initiatives that strengthen health, safety, and environmental standards and was given to BHSEA for the outstanding work of its training committee.

The committee - made up of health and safety professionals - facilitates training, mentoring and professional development activities, and supports the promotion of health, safety, and wellbeing in the workplace through shared learning and good practice.

Ken, who chairs the group, said: "The committee is made up of professionals who give up their time voluntarily to make a real difference in workplace health and safety across the region.

"We were honoured to receive this award and for members' dedication and passion for training and professional development to be recognised in this way."

The awards - which celebrate individuals and organisations that demonstrate excellence and innovation in health, safety, and environmental training - were held at the headquarters of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, in Wigston, on Thursday 13 November.

SGUK is a registered charity, established in 1947, which promotes health and safety by supporting a national network of coordinates a national network of voluntary health and safety groups across the UK.
