Around the clock opening was launched in December following the site’s hi-tech upgrade.
The trial has proved a success with hundreds of people taking advantage of parking on Sundays and into the night on weeknights and weekends.
Previously, the car park operated Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8pm, with extended hours for certain events and limited Sunday opening
Located just steps away from University of Wolverhampton at The Halls and other major venues, the Civic Centre car park serves thousands of people every year including concert goers, Wolves fans and those enjoying the city’s vibrant nightlife.
A ticketless automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system was introduced at the Civic Centre car park last year, offering quicker entry and exit, flexible payment options and no need to download an app.
The move to 24/7 opening now means visitors do not have to worry about rushing back before closing time.
The introduction of new opening hours follows consultation with local businesses and forms part of the City Centre Evening and Night-time Economy Strategy, aimed at creating a more welcoming, and lively city centre after dark.
The city has a strong offer for visitors provided by the city centre’s major visitor venues such as the Grand Theatre, Wolves Football Club and University of Wolverhampton at The Halls.
It has also seen the recent opening of Superbowl UK at the Mander Centre and the Lockworks Cinema at the Chubb Buildings.
Councillor Chris Burden, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Development, Jobs and Skills, said: “We want Wolverhampton to be a place that people can visit and enjoy at any time of day and having a 24/7 car park offer is an important part of this.
“Opening the Civic Centre car park around the clock seven days a week makes things easier for residents and visitors, while also giving local businesses a boost. I hope even more people take advantage of this and make the most of what our wonderful city centre has to offer.
“This is about creating a lively, safe and accessible city centre that benefits everyone.”
Data from the new opening hours at the Civic Centre will be kept under review and will also help to inform a wider Car Parking Strategy being developed for the city centre.
Councillor Qaiser Azeem, Cabinet Member for City Transport at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “The new technology at the Civic Centre car park has already made a significant impact by creating a smoother experience for people travelling into the city and 24/7 opening is the next positive step giving people even greater flexibility.
“Providing modern, safe and secure parking facilities is essential to Wolverhampton’s ongoing development and supports the major investment taking place in the city centre.”
The Civic Centre car park is monitored by CCTV and regular security patrols, ensuring a safe environment for users.
The new ticketless ANPR system has also been introduced at the council's Fold Street and Broad Street car parks. Broad Street also remains £2 from 5pm to 5am every day to help support the city's night-time economy.
