City of Wolverhampton College is appealing for people interested in shaping the future of further education to join its governing body.
The college's corporation board is responsible for ensuring the organisation meets its statutory and legal duties and that public funds are used to deliver high-quality education and training so that every learner has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Governors set targets and monitor student and apprentice retention and achievement, while overseeing the effective and efficient use of resources. They also ensure financial compliance and safeguard the organisation’s assets.
Board members also oversee the performance and remuneration of senior staff, and the framework for pay and conditions of teaching and support staff.
The role is voluntary with governors required to commit around 12 hours per month to the role and attend in-person meetings five times a year, as well as additional committees and strategy sessions.
Applications are welcomed from people of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in further and higher education and a commitment to quality and improving standards.
Applicants should also be able to work as part of a team, make reasoned decisions, have good listening and appraisal skills and be willing to promote the college in the community it services.
In particular, the college is seeking applications from those working in financial or compliance, risk and audit-focussed roles, as well as those in leadership positions with local employers or experience of capital development projects or facilities management in a large organisation.
