Wolverhampton Tool Library, launched as part of the council’s City Homemakers project with partners All Saints Action Network (ASAN), is holding a special spring event tomorrow (Wednesday) at their All Saints Road base.

There’s a chance for the first 30 people to get free membership for the first year, giving access to borrow anything from power drills and screwdrivers to larger items like carpet cleaners and electrical saws, as well as garden tools to make homes look great inside and out.

Members can access up to three tools for four days at a time, potentially saving hundreds of pounds on buying new equipment to improve their homes.

Wolverhampton Tool Library was the second major scheme to be launched under the council’s City Homemakers initiative last autumn, after Too Good to Chuck was launched last May at the Household Waste and Recycling Scheme in Shaw Road.

City Homemakers is all about the council and a network of partners helping residents to take pride in their homes and be able to make small improvements no matter what their budgets. Schemes like Too Good to Chuck have already been featured on national television.

It helps prevent waste and helps the environment, as well as helping vulnerable families who need furniture and practical ways of turning their houses into much-loved homes. The initiative will not just help individuals but also help communities and the look and feel of the whole city.

Leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council, Councillor Stephen Simkins said:

‘We’re supporting people when they need us most as a council and this scheme is a great example of that in action. It offers residents a chance to feel proud of where they live and improve their homes no matter how small their budget.

‘Tools can be very expensive, but the tool library makes home improvements a possibility for everyone in the city, as it should be.’

Chair of All Saints Action Network (ASAN) and former Mayor of Wolverhampton, Sandra Samuels OBE, encouraged everyone to come along tomorrow and find out more, which could save them hundreds of pounds.

‘Asan is very proud of this scheme and we want to ensure all residents get to benefit, so please drop by between 10 and 1pm and find out exactly what’s on offer from our friendly team and become a member.

‘You won’t regret it and it can save households so much money in these still very difficult financial times,’ she said.

The spring event is open to all from 10-1pm tomorrow at ASAN’s All Saints base. Please bring photo ID if you’d like to become a member.
