A public consultation has launched on preliminary proposals to improve travel on the A454 in Wolverhampton.

The East Park Active Travel link includes better cycling provision, upgraded and safer crossings and improved footpaths along the A454 Willenhall Road between East Park Way and the Deans Road/Stowheath Lane.

The City of Wolverhampton Council project links in with other City East Gateway schemes along the A454 – a key route into Wolverhampton and a focal point for regeneration.

It is being developed in conjunction with Black Country Transport and aims to make the route safer for cyclists and pedestrians and easier for people to use public transport, while ensuring traffic flow runs smoothly.

The scheme will be funded by the Government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) specifically for projects such as this.

Councillor Qaiser Azeem, City of Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for city highways, said: “This is about improving a major road into Wolverhampton for all users, so people can choose to cycle or walk and feel safe doing so.

“It is not an isolated scheme; it forms part of wider plan for an inter-connected network of active travel routes across the city and the region that can have a positive impact on everything from traffic congestion to air quality and the local economy.

“We want to hear views from across the community on these proposals so I would encourage anyone with an interest to take part.”

Feedback from the consultation will help shape more detailed designs for the East Park Active Travel link.

The deadline for responses is Friday October 3, 2025.

A drop-in event will take place at Eastfield Community Centre, Colliery Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 2QY, on Wednesday September 17 from 12pm to 6pm.
