People are being invited to come together for a family fun day which aims to celebrate community spirit and local pride at Bilston Neighbourhood Day.
The event takes place on Friday 10 October, between 12pm and 6pm, at Bert Turner Boulevard, where visitors can expect a small funfair, inflatables, roaming performers, live music and DJ as well as interactive games for everyone to enjoy.
From 4pm, local schools will take centre stage in a talent contest, showcasing performances from pupils across the area. Audience members will then help decide the winner by voting for their favourite act, with the winning school receiving an exciting prize.
Later in the evening, visitors can test their local knowledge at a free to attend ‘Bostin’ Bilston Quiz’, taking place at Bilston Town Hall from 7.30pm. Councillor Chris Burden, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Development, Jobs and Skills, said: “It’s great that we can put on events such as these that really highlight just how great Bilston is. Bilston is a proud and resilient community with a rich history and a bright future. It’s a fantastic opportunity to foster community spirit and pride, as well as showcasing local talent.”
There are more exciting events taking place during the weekend in Bilston at various venues including a ‘Our Bilston’ schools’ exhibition at Bilston Library, Bluebird Belles at Bilston Town Hall, a Beer Festival at The Sir Henry Newbold and Karaoke Discos at numerous venues, to name a few.
Bilston Neighbourhood Day is part of the wider government backed Plans for Neighbourhoods Programme, which aims to improve public spaces, strengthen communities and allow residents the chance to have their voice heard in shaping their neighbourhood.
Bilston is one of 75 areas selected nationally to benefit from long-term investment and support.
