The report shows that AFC Wolves generates more than £1.2 million in annual social and economic value, supporting hundreds of players, volunteers and community participants through grassroots football, development programmes and volunteering opportunities. The analysis was carried out using FA-backed methodology, underlining the club’s commitment to accountability and measurable impact.

Operating across the city, AFC Wolves currently engages more than 2,000 individuals each year through youth and adult football teams, workforce volunteering and wider community programmes. The study demonstrates clear benefits across key areas including physical health, mental wellbeing, employability, social cohesion and economic contribution.

Youth football programmes alone create over £200,000 in value annually, driven by improvements in mental health, reductions in youth obesity, lower crime-related costs and increased local spending. Adult football participation generates nearly £250,000 in social impact, primarily through wellbeing improvements, reduced healthcare pressure and increased economic activity.

Volunteers have been central to the club’s success. With over 90 volunteers contributing more than 32,000 hours each year, their involvement produces an estimated £754,000 in combined economic and wellbeing value. The report shows volunteers experience higher life satisfaction, stronger community connection and improved employability skills as a result of their involvement with the club.

Luke Thompson, founder of AFC Wolves, said the findings reflect both the club’s ambition and its responsibility to the community:

“Over the past year, our work across Wolverhampton and the wider Midlands has generated over £1.2 million in annual social and economic value, independently modelled using FA-backed methodology. As we look ahead, we’re focused on scaling this impact even further, expanding our Development Centres, strengthening our pathways, and progressing our long-term facility vision. We’re now looking to connect with organisations who want to align with meaningful, measurable impact in the community.”

Looking forward, AFC Wolves plans to build on this momentum by expanding its Development Centres, increasing access to structured football pathways and advancing its long-term facilities strategy. These next steps aim to ensure more young people, adults and volunteers can benefit from high-quality grassroots sport in a safe, inclusive environment.

The club is now actively seeking partnerships with businesses, public bodies and charitable organisations that share a commitment to social value, community development and measurable outcomes. With robust evidence of impact and clear plans for growth, AFC Wolves is positioning itself as a leading example of how grassroots football can deliver lasting change beyond the pitch.
