Wirral Hospice St John's is based in Wirral and provides specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, completely free of charge. The hospice is a registered charity and relies almost entirely on local voluntary resources to continue its vital work and maintain the high standard of care it is known for.

Wirral Hospice St John's provides specialist palliative care and support for people with severe and progressive disease, for which curative treatment is no longer possible.

The hospice works in partnership with Wirral Hospital and Community Specialist Palliative Care team to provide a completed integrated service for patients, whilst extending care and support to their families and friends.

The friendly and understanding team at Wirral Hospice St John's work together to improve quality of life for patients in their care. Patients at the hospice are referred by their family doctor or hospital specialist.
The outstanding care provided by Wirral Hospice St John's is available to all, completely free of charge.


Services

Wirral Hospice St John's offer a wide range of services to help care for those with life-limiting illness, such as:

In-Patient Unit - patients can be admitted to this 16 bed unit to bring difficult symptoms under control, as well as for assessment, rehabilitation and family support. Some patients stay at the unit until the last days of their life. The team provide specialist care for patients and their families, treating them with dignity and respect to ensure comfort and wellbeing.

Day Therapy - the specialist team offers support that will enable patients to continue living at home, whilst overcoming any problems associated with debilitating illness. Day therapy patients will also have the opportunity to enjoy companionship and explore new interests.

Out-Patient Clinic - patients can be referred to the Out-Patient clinic for specialist medical care.

Education - the hospice shares its skills and expertise with those interested or involved in palliative care. This is achieved through a specialist education programme.

Bereavement - members and volunteers of the Patient and Family Support Team offer professional support for bereaved families.


Fundraising

Wirral Hospice St John's needs to raise over 3 million each year to provide specialist palliative care to its patients.

The majority of funds have to be raised from local voluntary resources and every penny allows the hospice to continue its work. There are lots of ways to help the hospice and all donations are greatly appreciated.

You can donate direct to the hospice by debit/ credit card, cheque or through the Just Giving website. You can also choose to become a regular giver on Just Giving - even the smallest amount each month makes a big difference to Wirral Hospice St John's.


Volunteers

Volunteers have direct impact in almost all areas of the hospice's activities, from volunteer nurses for Day Care to reception volunteers.

These volunteers help to make Wirral Hospice St John's the special place that it is and their time is greatly appreciated.
