A charitable organisation with...a million reasons to improve cancer care in Wirral

Wirral Cancer Care

1 in 3 people will be affected by Cancer in their lifetime. In the Wirral there are many people being diagnosed with cancer each year.  As a charitable organisation, Macmillan Cancer Support would like to be able to offer help and support to everyone who needs it from diagnosis and throughout their illness.  We are therefore busy raising funds for the charity, to extend and enhance local cancer care in the Wirral.

The charitable organisation of Macmillan Cancer Support provides the expert care and emotional/practical support that makes a real difference to people living with cancer. The charity offers a range of innovative services and are at the heart of improving cancer care throughout Wirral and the UK.

Our charity's range of Wirral services include:

  • Macmillan health and social care professionals:

16 Macmillan postholders based at Clatterbridge Hospital & St John's Hospice • 13 Macmillan postholders based at Arrowe Park Hospital • 6 Macmillan postholders based at Eastham Clinic • 1 Macmillan postholder based at the Wirral Library Project.

  • Information and support services
  • Carer support services
  • Design and creation of cancer care centres
  • Self help and support services
  • Grants and money advice

Macmillan Grants from our charitable organisation.
Often people with cancer find that they have extra costs to meet because of their illness. If they are on low income, or have had to give up working during treatment, this can create financial problems. For many Wirral people with cancer, money worries can be as distressing as cancer itself. To ease these pressures Macmillan's Charity awards one-off grants for a wide variety of practical needs.

In 2006 our charity gave 153 patients a total of £56,695 as grants in the Wirral area, from our charitable organisation.

The Charity's Specific costs

£50 could buy a liquidizer for someone who can't eat solid food
£91.80 could pay for patient's yearly prescription
£100 could pay for new clothing for someone experiencing weight loss
£180 could allow someone with cancer to keep the heating on when they really need it
£350 could pay for a much-needed holiday for someone with cancer and their carer

Macmillan's Charitable Organisation aims to give everyone equal access to our services and be respectful of and responsive to the different needs of each individual. Our charity welcomes everyone’s involvement in all our activities. Our charity creates an inclusive environment where everyone is valued and treated fairly no matter what their race, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. Our charity strives to prevent unfair discrimination and act appropriately if it is identified. Our charity appoints the best quality staff, based on merit.

Macmillan Cancer Support Charity improves the lives of Wirral people affected by cancer. Our charity provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. One in three of us will get cancer. 1.2 million of us are living with it. We are all affected by cancer. We can all help. We are Macmillan.
