We recently went to eat at Zaman Datchet as we'd be hearing great things about the food and wanted to try it out for ourselves. Pete likes curry (he'd have it every day if he could) so he was looking forward to going.
Perhaps a bit trivial, but it was nice to be able to easily park behind the restaurant and we could walk in through the back entrance. So far so good.
We were met by very attentive staff who showed us to our seats and who were very enthusiastic about the menu, explaining to me what the dishes were - I am not 100% au fait with Indian food despite having spent two weeks on holiday there!
Pete loved it because there were quite a few different dishes for him to try such as King Prawn Changasi (large king prawns marinated and cooked in the tandoor and cooked in a secret recipe), Special Murgi Massala or Special Duck. I liked the fact that despite the choice, I could have my favourite korma (yes I know, should have tried something else but I LIKE korma!)
Everything was impeccably presented on lovely branded plates, and the chef even surprised us with a selection of starters which were delicious. I took some pictures of these, BUT I was so keen to get stuck into my main course that I only remembered about taking a photo when I had finished. Whoops. The portions were very generous so I was able to take a doggy bag home for next day's lunch :-)
Needless to say, Pete ate all his.
Wahid Zaman, the restaurant owner came over to chat with us and kept us mesmerised with stories of India and the refurbishment of the restaurant (which started life as a pub). We could see why Zaman has such as loyal clientele - everyone coming in to eat treated Wahid and the staff as family, so the atmosphere was really nice.
So take some friends and go eat at Zaman - even if Indian food is not your normal first choice I guarantee you'll love the food there.
