Traveling Solo

The biggest mistake you can make when travelling solo, IS NOT GOING AT ALL!

The freedom you get when travelling solo is addictive. Going at your own pace and not feeling guilty is a peaceful and calming experience, one once you’ve done it once and it’s likely that you will want to experience it again and again.

Leaving your comfort zone is good for you and you will never return the way you left and you will discover just how strong and capable you are.

It really is not as scary as you think - but where to go?

Why not consider a safari in Africa?

Imagine peering through a sea of tall grass and in the distance a leopard is on the prowl, its familiar coat rippling in the sun.

Or a memory of elephants standing ankle deep in a watering hole meters from your vehicle.

This is what makes Africa so utterly captivating.

If you’re dreaming of embarking on a truly special solo adventure, consider a safari. It’s easy, exciting, keeps you busy and there are plenty of interesting fellow travellers to keep you company. A trip of a lifetime!

There are countless options when it comes to Safaris. You can…

  • Watch the great wildebeest migration weave through Tanzania into Kenya and back again.
  • Marvel at the leopards of Southern Africa.
  • Feel the spray of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe as the water crashes to the rocks below
  • Watch as gorillas play in Rwanda
  • Climb the magnificent dunes of Namibia’s Skeleton Coast
  • Spend a few hours with the mysterious Himba, an indigenous tribe that still lives like its ancestors centuries before

There’s so much to see and do that deciding where to go will be your biggest challenge. No matter what you choose your experience will be unforgettable.

One of the wonderful things about a safari is that everything is included.

Most camps follow the same basic schedule: You’ll enjoy two, 3-4 hour game drives per day, one in the morning and the other in the late afternoon when wildlife is most active. Meals and snacks are served in camp or out in the bush (safaris are like grandmothers, they feed you all day long), plus a couple hours of downtime to catch a quick nap, enjoy a dip in the pool or indulge in some other activities the camp may offer.

Most importantly, everything is taken care of—all you have to do is turn up. You’ll meet great people along the way.

Safaris, by their nature, bring about a sense of camaraderie. Everyone you meet loves adventure, nature and wildlife, just like you.

It’s these common interests that will bring you together at night when you sit by the campfire and relive your day’s sightings over a cocktail. There’s nothing like sharing the magic of the bush to inspire solidarity. Before you know it you’ll be swapping contact information.
