Peace at Christmas

We all hope for a happy, peaceful and harmonious Christmas, the answer could lie in your festive decorations.

With Advent well and truly under way, there are lots of articles about how to avoid ‘Christmas burnout’. Unfortunately for some families there will be the inevitable blazing row as well. There is a theme running through this, burn and blazing – too much fire.

The main colour associated with Christmas is red. Red is a strong fire colour and represents passion and should only be used sparingly. Too much and the flame of passion becomes a raging inferno. By adding a bit of balance to keep the fire in proportion, the decorations can work in your favour to create the atmosphere that you really want.

Water will keep the fire under control. Blue lights, crystals and water features are examples of symbolism that represent water and can add a bit of calm.

Ceiling decorations hanging down, unless you have very high ceilings, can bring down the energy of a room and leave you feeling tired and tetchy. Keeping any downward hanging decorations to the edges of rooms and not over seating areas can help to prevent the ‘pressure’ from these.

There are a variety of Christmas plants to add nature and bring a bit of grounding, poinsettias, azaleas etc. Plants are important because most of the other greenery that is introduced, such as the tree and wreath, are longer growing.

Balance the bling, tame the trimmings and enjoy a harmonious Happy Christmas.
