Dedworth Compost Giveaway

Green-fingered residents will be able to pick up some free compost as part of a recycling day in Dedworth, the first of its kind for the borough.

The event will run from 9.30am until 12.30pm on Saturday 3 October at Clewer Memorial Recreation Ground.

The five tonnes of free compost is made from residents’ own recycled green garden waste and is an ideal soil improver for gardens in preparation for the winter ahead. The giveaway is part of the Dedworth Recycling Day where the Royal Borough’s recycling team will be giving away other freebies such as fruit smoothies, food waste bags and advice and information on composting, recycling and other waste services.

Residents are asked to come along with their own bags, containers and shovels as the compost will be loose.
Cllr Carwyn Cox, cabinet member for environmental services, said: Dedworth Recycling Day aims to be a very fun event. Not only will we be giving away free compost and food waste bin caddy liners but residents will also have the chance to make their own free smoothies, order new bins and bring along small unwanted items, including any small electrical items they want to recycle."

“The compost on offer is a cheap and environmentally friendly way to give plants the nutrients they need. We’re encouraging all gardening enthusiasts to attend this free giveaway.”

Clewer South councillor Ed Wilson whose idea it was for the recycling day, added: “This event is a great opportunity to thank residents for their ongoing efforts to recycle and to give them something back so they can recycle even more in the future.”
