Being an Apprentice or thinking about becoming one?

The idea behind an apprenticeship is to earn whilst you learn. If you are like me, the thought of going to university is quite financially daunting however the thought of a degree is quite an empowering one. So to be able to keep earning, gain experience and gain qualifications is the ideal situation from me.

The experience element of the apprenticeship was particularly appealing for me, as I believe that although a degree is an excellent addition to your CV, experience is just as, if not more important in employers’ eyes. It goes towards breaking that vicious cycle of not having enough experience to get a job but you can’t get a job to gain the experience due to lack of experience – extremely annoying and at time disheartening. Employers see that you have experience and that counts for a huge amount.

For the same amount of time as it takes to gain a degree at University, you can earn money, gain experience and gain qualifications by doing an apprenticeship – for me, it’s a easy decision to make. It allows you to gain an insight into the professional world and gain academic skills at the same time.

If you or any one you know is looking for their next step in education, contact East Berkshire College to find out what apprenticeships they offer and which ones will suit you. From someone who is currently doing an apprenticeship in conjunction with East Berkshire College, I cannot recommend it highly enough!
